Black Dog America is seeking qualified, experienced K9 Handlers with proven backgrounds in Explosive Detection (EDD) or Firearms Detection (FDD) operations. We are looking for dependable professionals who demonstrate strong K9 handling skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to operational readiness and public safety.

Position Overview

The K9 Detection Handler is responsible for conducting proactive security patrols, detection sweeps, and threat assessment support using a trained Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) or Firearms Detection Dog (FDD). The handler and K9 work as a team to identify potential threats, support venue and event security operations, and enhance public safety. Responsibilities include maintaining K9 operational readiness, conducting regular training, documenting deployment activities, and responding to security incidents in accordance with established protocols and industry standards.

Candidate Requirements

• Must possess a trained Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) or Firearms Detection Dog (FDD) with a current certification, or a dog capable of successfully completing a certification evaluation conducted by Black Dog America or its authorized affiliates.
• Minimum of two years of professional working dog handling experience.
• Current, documented K9 team detection certification, or ability to successfully complete the required certification evaluation.
• Certificate of completion from a recognized canine detection training program or equivalent documented training and experience.
• Must possess a valid Nevada PILB work card with the appropriate security and K9 qualifications, or be eligible to obtain the required credentials through the PILB with sponsorship from Black Dog America.
• Ability to maintain accurate K9 training, deployment, and certification records.
• Handlers must maintain responsibility for the health, care, housing, transportation, and general welfare of their personally owned K9, in accordance with Black Dog America policies and applicable employment agreements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior military or law enforcement K9 experience.
• Experience conducting detection sweeps, security patrols, and special event security operations.
• Familiarity with industry-recognized K9 training, certification, and recordkeeping standards.
• Strong communication skills, professionalism, and sound judgment in operational environments.

LE / Military K9 Trainer

Black Dog America is seeking elite K9 Trainers with proven backgrounds in law enforcement or military operations in anticipation of a significant contract award.

Position Overview

As a K9 Trainer, you will lead the development and execution of advanced canine training programs for detection, patrol, and tactical response. You’ll work closely with handlers, law enforcement units, and operational leads to ensure readiness, precision, and effectiveness in high-stakes environments.

This role is contingent on final contract award. Selected candidates will be prioritized for immediate onboarding upon confirmation.

Core Responsibilities

• Design and execute scenario-based training modules for detection (explosives, narcotics) and apprehension.
• Assess canine performance and handler synergy, refining techniques to meet operational standards.
• Support tactical deployment operations with real-time K9 guidance and command.
• Conduct training in urban, rural, and facility-specific environments as dictated by mission needs.
• Uphold strict safety, confidentiality, and ethical protocols at all times.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on K9 operations experience in law enforcement or military service.
• Documented expertise in canine behavior, obedience, scent work, and bite work.
• Instructor-level certifications preferred (e.g., POST, NPCA, NAPWDA, USPCA, or military equivalents).
• Strong command presence, communication, and adaptability in high-stress scenarios.

Preferred Skills

• Experience training multiple breeds across mission types (e.g., dual-purpose, single-purpose).

Role Overview

In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and executing live-fire and classroom-based instruction tailored to operational realities. You will train tactical personnel in safe handling, marksmanship fundamentals, advanced shooting drills, and weapons retention under stress-based conditions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Conduct firearms instruction across pistol, rifle, and shotgun platforms.
• Develop curriculum that aligns with POST, NRA LE, or military standards.
• Facilitate live-fire range operations with strict adherence to safety protocols.
• Evaluate and remediate student performance through structured coaching and assessments.
• Maintain detailed training records, student evaluations, and equipment logs.

Minimum Qualifications
