Canine (K9) Team Certifications

K9 Team Annual Certification (EDD & FDD)

Black Dog America’s Scent Detection K9 Team Certification Standards meet and or exceed the standards set forth by Drug Beat Professional K9 Certification and The Scientific Working Group on Dog and Orthogonal Detector Guidelines (SWGDOG).


Explosives Used (live)

RDX or C-4, PETN, TNT, DYNAMITE, BLACK POWDER, DOUBLE BASE SMOKELESS POWDER, AMMONIA NITRATE Other explosives are optional and will be determined prior to the test based on the dogs training. Amounts to be used in weights. 8 oz up to 3 lbs


Firearms Used (live)

Handgun (Recently Fired), Handgun (Fired 1 years ago) and Long Gun / Rifle.

Explosive Hides

All Explosive Hides are LIVE Explosive Odors

Search Area

The search area will consist of eight room total. One room will be blank, seven rooms will contain one live hide. One of the seven rooms will contain six pieces of luggage, one of which will contain a one live odor and five will be blank.

Alerts

The alert must be a passive alert. The K9 will sit or down to alert. The K9 must alert within a reasonable distance from the hide. Three feet or closer. Aggressive alerts are NOT accepted.

Time

There will be a time limit of ten minutes in each room, If needed. The K9 will then be allowed a rest period up to ten minutes between searches, if needed.

FAILURE OF CERTIFICATION

The K9 Team will have a second chance on the same day to attempt to certify. The K9 Team will not have to repeat the portion of the test that the K9 Team already passed on that day. A second failure will require the K9 Team to reschedule the entire test and start over after two weeks.
